Chris Barton named Wave Systems CEO as Barton VC commits to follow-on investment 4th financing round

ASPEN, CO - June 9, 2025 The WAVE Systems Inc. Board of Directors has unimosly named Chris Barton, Managing Director of Barton Venture Capital as its new CEO, replacing co-Founder Mark Caron.

"While my professional background is rooted in technology, telecommunications, and real-time service delivery, my journey to this position is deeply personal. Twenty years ago, I lost my young daughter to drowning—a tragedy that forever shaped my life and my mission. Since then, I have been driven by one unwavering goal: to end preventable drowning for families everywhere.", said Chris Barton.

Chris has a vision to migrate WAVE Systems from a one-time hardware purchase to a hardware-as-a-service (HWaaS) subscription-based rental with zero-deductible warranties.  Expansion of the WAVE GUARDina platform to include severe weather alerts, monitoring of AED's and other remote alert devices on and aorund the pool deck is being announced immediately.

When I was introduced to WAVE in 2022, I was struck by the extraordinary potential of WAVE’s digital safety solutions. WAVE’s products are the only widely deployed, commercially-proven digital drowning detection systems in the United States. From the outset, I recognized the profound impact these technologies could have in saving lives and supporting aquatic safety professionals. After initially joining as an investor and Board member, I accepted the role of President & COO, leading daily operations and working closely with our team to advance our vision. The dedication I witnessed only deepened my commitment. I approach this responsibility with a true sense of purpose." says Chris.

About Wave Drowning Detection Systems:

The WAVE system utilizes ultra-lightweight, comfortable headsets worn by swimmers. The headsets communicate wirelessly with an above-water Hub which measures how long each swimmer’s face has been under water. If submerged for longer than 20+ seconds (adjustable), wearables (such as bracelets and pendants) worn by staff will begin to vibrate to make them aware that a swimmer may be in trouble. If the swimmer remains underwater, the system will alert using audio-visual alarms, ensuring that staff intervene before it becomes a drowning. If a lifeguard enters the water to make a rescue, WAVE’s Lifeguard Entry Alert (LEA) feature immediately alerts other staff in the facility so they can support the rescue
